Homeopathy can treat a large number of conditions that are caused due to the abuse of tobacco.
Let us begin with the effect of tobacco on the mind. When tobacco smoking causes a lot of anxiety, a homeopath may prescribe either of the medicines Petroleum or Sepia. When there is forgetfulness after tobacco the drug Caladium may be used. Caladium is also the drug often prescribed to reduce the craving for tobacco.
Chronic abuse of tobacco may cause an inflammation or even an atrophy of the optic nerve. In such cases, homeopathic drugs like Phosphorus, Nux vomica or Ars alb are helpful.
Gastritis and heartburn after the use of tobacco may be treated with Chelidonium or Staphysagria.
Caladium and Lycopodium are two homeopathic drugs that are useful for patients who have impotency and poor erections after using tobacco for a long time.
When the larynx gets painful after tobacco smoking, the two homeopathic drugs that are often useful are Bryonia and Clematis. Drosera can be used for smoker’s cough- other drugs to be thought of are Mentha piperita and Spongia.
When inhaling snuff is the cause of all the complaints, Silicea may be considered.
Tobacco can cause changes in the blood vessels of the heart leading to ischemia. Homeopathic medicines like Kalmia, Lilium tig, Nux vomica, Spigelia, Staphysagria and Tabacum (prepared from the tobacco leaves) may be considered for the angina that results from these changes.
When a person becomes sleepless due to the abuse of tobacco, Gelsemium, Nux vomica and Plantago major are useful remedies.
Apart from Caladium mentioned above, Staphysagria and Plantago may help stimulate a disgust to tobacco.
