The Council for Homeopathic Certification (CHC) had invited us to give practical tips on setting up and maintaining a homeopathy practice during one of their “Happy Hour” sessions in July 2022. You can browse through the points below to see what we spoke about and also view the whole session in the embedded video at the bottom of this post.
There is a to do list that we have prepared for before setting up practice and then for later, to maintain the practice.
BEFORE YOU START:
a) LOCATION: find out where the other alternative medicine practitioners are concentrated.
b) OFFICE SPACE: Try sharing on an hourly or daily basis with other practitioners. It is more pocket friendly and you will make new connections and even get referrals
c) AVOID SETTING UP A HOME OFFICE: set up a boundary. You do not want clients coming at all odd hours because they take it for granted that you will be available on demand.
d) BUSINESS LICENSE: to legally operate a business in your city.
e) REGISTER YOUR BUSINESS WITH A FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME with your county
f) PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL LIABILITY INSURANCE: a must before you start your practice
g) GET YOUR WEBSITE UP AND HAVE AN ONLINE PRESENCE: blogs, business pages on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
ONCE YOU START:
“To know how to wait is the great secret of success”- Joseph de Maistre. It is never too easy to set up a practice and at the same time it is not really difficult. There is always a waiting period before the practice takes off. Be patient and use this time well. DO NOT LOSE HOPE.
a) GIVE INFORMATIONAL TALKS (on homeopathy): local library, church, community center, senior center, health food stores
b) UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE AND BLOG REGULARLY
c) HEALTH FAIRS: represent yourself and homeopathy by participating in health fairs, community health clinics, etc.
d) BUSINESS BANK ACCOUNTS/ CREDIT CARDS to get deductions on all legitimate office expenses
e) BUSINESS ACCOUNTS WITH PAYPAL, SQUARE etc. to accept card payments and send online invoices
f) SEP IRA ACCOUNTS: to get tax deductions for your business
g) RULES AND BOUNDARIES FOR YOUR CLIENTS: fixed hours of practice, don’t encourage them to call you outside office hours, keep a separate phone which you can shut off after office hours
h) RULES FOR YOURSELF: take time out from work- short get-aways, vacations, cultivate a hobby, exercise, yoga, meditation
i) UPDATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE: keep reading, attend workshops, conferences, etc.
Here’s our “Happy Hour” video describing all that we have mentioned above in greater detail
